PuntuEUS, the foundation in charge of the .EUS top-level domain, joined the Global Cyber Alliance (GCA). PuntuEUS became the second organisation in the Basque Country, after the Basque Cybersecurity Centre (BCSC), to join this global alliance created in 2015 to address systemic cyber risks and make the internet a safer place.
The aim of the collaboration is to boost trust in the Basque digital ecosystem, of which PuntuEUS is a fundamental part.
Josu Waliño, CEO of PuntuEUS, said: ‘From the beginning, cybersecurity has been an essential area in PuntuEUS, as we actively work to make the .EUS domain a space of security and quality for its users. This alliance gives us the opportunity to add new cybersecurity tools to the catalogue of solutions already applied in .EUS and, at the same time, to participate in a global network that will help us deepen the continuous improvement of the domain’.
On the one hand, the collaboration agreement will offer protection to .EUS domains through the incorporation of PuntuEUS to the Domain Trust platform. Domain Trust is a project promoted by GCA to facilitate the exchange of information on malicious domains, one of the essential infrastructures in cybercrime.
In addition, PuntuEUS will raise awareness among its users about the free cyber hygiene resources created by GCA and its partners, such as the Cybersecurity Toolkit for Small Business, the Learning Portal or the guides and resources to implement the DMARC protocol for email protection.
‘PuntuEUS proximity to the social, administrative, and corporate fabric that makes up the Basque digital ecosystem makes the foundation an ideal partner for our alliance. Their collaboration will offer us immediacy in the application of our solutions and a uniform environment in which to observe the beneficial effect that cybersecurity plays in building trust,’ said Alejandro Fernández-Cernuda, Director of Engagement at GCA’s Internet Integrity Program.
Finally, the agreement between PuntuEUS and GCA also includes a chapter on international cooperation. In this sense, PuntuEUS has offered GCA the possibility of presenting its programs and projects to the members of the geoTLD Group, the association of domains linked to specific cities, regions, cultures, or languages, including .eus, .cat, .paris, .africa, and .scot.
GCA, for its part, will be pleased to see PuntuEUS playing an active role in its work with the other partners that make up both the alliance and the Domain Trust project.
